Bear Down Sunday #5

The 3-1 Chicago Bears face the Atlanta Falcons today. The Bears are already 2 wins behind the Minnesota Vikings, meaning each game is important. Isn't it great to have 'important' Bears' games again?!
The most important Bears game ever was played on my 21st birthday. The Bears whipped the New England Patriots 46-10 in Super Bowl XX. How appropriate was the 46 in light of their '46' defense (thank you Doug Plank).
Dan Hampton was the heart of the defense. Hamp was a warrior, playing through pain and injuries to forge a 12 year Hall of Fame career.
Danimal was not shy, but he was often overlooked on a team of characters like Jim McMahon, Payton, William Perry and others. Even his defense mate Steve 'Mongo' McMichael got more hype.
I had to go across the country to Oaks (PA) and the Ultimate Collectors Shw to meet Hampton, but it was worth it. I was one of the last to meet him and he took his time. We talked about his career, the Super Bowl, his radio work and more. I thanked him for my best birthday present.
The only problem was the knucklehead photographer who decided to take much more background and much less Hampton. Oh well, at least he got the face
.
Dan Hampton and me in Oaks, PA-October 2009.
