A couple years ago, I was invited to the Chicago premiere of Fancypants, a movie made by and with a bunch of talented Chicago people. Red carpet invites do not come often for JohngysBeat.com (actually, this was our first such invite) and I was naturally excited.
I attended the event with JayHawk Evans (Videographer) and Scott Beatty (Photog). I must say that the PR firm behind the event treated us very well. JohngysBeat.com was getting respect!
I did interviews with several of the actors, the director and the producer. I got a lot of material and footage, which I put up on JohngysBeat.com over the next couple weeks.
In retrospect, perhaps I overdid it just a bit. My friends still gleefully jab me about my (over)coverage. I see their point, but I think they see mine, too.
I cannot say Fancypants was a great film. It was enjoyable though and featured several excellent performances. I knew and liked two actors going in, Roddy Piper and Beth Horn, and I met and liked several of the other actors, including Patrick Gleason, who has a great story in himself. In short, everything about this film was a great experience.
I got a lot of exposure from my coverage. I learned a lot from the experience. It was a total "win" for me. If only my friends could see my vision.
Patrick Gleason and me in Chicago, IL-September 2011.
