When meandering through Artist Alley at C2E2 (Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo) this year, Aaron Alexovich's Serenity Rose banner caught my eye. Sometimes that's all it takes to discover a new cool creator.
Serenity Rose, also known as Sera, is the title character in the story of a young witch (one of only 57 existing witches world wide). Her powers include flight, producing ectoplasmic beings, changing form and more. The comic follows the young adult in her hometown of Crestfallen, a town filled of oddities and bizarre creatures, It is a story of supernatural occurrences, yet it is also a story of any normal teenager.
As usual, my description is a simple overview. The story has much mor depth and layers.
There are three volumes and I am sure more on the way. Aaron does an excellent job of fleshing out the character, making her human and otherly all at once.
Aaron was born in Chicago, but wisely moved to warmer California. His first big gig was drawing for Nickelodeon's Invade Zim.
