As I entered the Pheasant Run Mega Center for the Chicago Pop Culture Con, I immediately met Razor J and Jack HeKleR. The duo greeted and entertained attendees all weekend, just as they have been entertaining folks for years.
Putting them at the entrance was a good choice. They were the first and last interaction for the attendees. They put you in a good mood and they left you in a good mood.
Ventriloquists are a dying breed it seems. I have always been fascinated by the art though. It was never about the physical act of not moving your lips while throwing your voice to the dummy. I always liked the person's ability to have a "conversation" with the dummy. I was happy to see 12 year old Darci Lynne Farmer win "America's Got Talent" season 12.
Razor J and Jack HeKleR harken back to the glory days of ventriloquism, but with a fresh updated approach. There's a YouTube video called VenTrivia with Razor J and Jack HeKleR which demonstrates part of the act.
Razor J has been in radio since 1987. He's also a club/mobile DJ, a ventriloquist and more. In short, he's an entertainer.
Razor J was just the beginning of the fun at the two day Chicago Pop Culture Con. The rest of the event featured sports stars, artists, cosplayers, actors, vendors and more. I had a great time all weekend and I already look forward to next year. You can get news and info at ChicagoPopCultureCon.com and also periodic updates here.
