On the Beat With Shawna Reed (Appearing Soon at Squared Circle Expo)

Since making her professional wrestling debut in 2016, Shawna Reed has been very busy and very successful. As she closes in on 500 matches, Shawna recently added All Elite Wrestling to her impressive resume.

Shawna has trained under Cody Hawk, Super Zeta and Dustin Runnels, while soaking in knowledge from many others from training seminars, wrestling matches and more. In addition to wrestling, Shawna booked and wrote her own show in 2019. She is very much a student of the game.

At a young age in a relatively short span, Shawna has won a few titles already. Currently, she is the reigning Women's champ for PBW (of Ohio), Blue Water Championship Wrestling (of Michigan) and Battle on the Border (of Ohio). She has also held titles in Women's Wrestling Alliance (Indiana), Fight Society Alpha Female (Pennsylvania) and XBW.

I have followed Shawna's career for several years now and have seen her develop and progress. I'm not alone, because the folks at AEW came calling recently. In her first AEW match, Shawna faced Dr. Britt Baker. Her next match was against Thunder Rosa. Shawna delivered quality matches against both opponents.

Debuting against Baker speaks a lot about what AEW thinks of Shawna. She isn't just filler for a match. Putting Shawna in the ring with one of AEW's top women is a statement. Following that by pitting her against Thunder Rosa furthers that point.

Right now, Shawna has wrestled twice at AEW and there is no promise of more, but there is no doubt in my mind she will be back. Wrestling can be a funny business. Her return might not happen right away, but after she did so well in those two matches, people took notice and I am sure that includes the folks at AEW. When the time is right, “the daughter of a thousand maniacs” will be back. In the meantime, Shawna will keep honing her craft and adding to her total of matches and titles.

One of those upcoming matches will be against an opponent to be named at the Squared Circle Expo May 15 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Although the SCE will be May 14 and 15, Shawna will only be appearing on Saturday. The good news is she will be meeting and greeting fans during the day and then she will be kicking butt in the ring Saturday night.

Last night I had the pleasure of interviewing Shawna. We talked about all of this and more. Although I had previously met Shawna at various shows, this was the first time I got to talk to her in more depth about her career.

I encountered a young wrestler who loves the business and takes it seriously, while still having fun doing so. I was already impressed with her in-ring work, but now I have a whole new appreciation for her mind set. That's a winning combination that should take her far in this business.

I really think we will see Shawna on AEW again sooner than later. Either way, I look forward to seeing her at the Squared Circle Expo.

Among the many others, Shawna is looking forward to reconnecting with Dustin Runnels, another of the many wrestling guests in the jam-packed lineup. With AEW wrestlers Britt Baker, Tay Conti and Nyla Rose also appearing, could either be an opponent for Shawna Saturday?

The Squared Circle Expo will be a unique fan experience. Promoted as a "convention dedicated to the culture of professional wrestling and sports entertainment," the Squared Circle Expo takes the best elements of conventions and adds a few new ones.

The two day event will include wrestling superstars, meet and greets, photo ops, special events, seminars, memorabilia vendors, Q&A panels and more. There will even be a live wrestling show on Saturday night. Along with Shawna, also appearing are Madusa, Vickie Guerrero, Melina, Renee Michelle, Francine, Tay Conti, Dr. Britt Baker, Booker T, the Gunn Club (Billy, Austin and Colten Gunn), Chris Masters, JTG, Kane, the Headbangers, Dustin Rhodes, Jake Roberts, Darby Allin, Sammy Guevara, Charles Wright, Dan Severn, Duke Droese. The Boogeyman, the Highlanders Al Snow, Kevin Thorn, Cody Hawk and more. The SCE promoters promise they aren't done with guest announcements either.

I really appreciate Shawna for her time and consideration in our interview. After debuting for AEW, I know she has been busier than ever. Shawna has a bright future. I look forward to seeing her at the Squared Circle Expo and on future AEW broadcasts. I encourage everyone to come out to the Squared Circle Expo for a chance to meet her and watch her wrestle.\
