Celebrity Jersey Cards #631: Gary Payton & Jerry Rice

Celebrity Jersey Cards is a weekly feature in which I create virtual trading cards for celebrities wearing sports jerseys. With the MLB season upon us, I continue marching through all teams alphabetically.

Born in Oakland, California, Gary Payton grew up to be an Basketball Hall of Famer. He spent 13 of his 17 seasons with the Seattle SuperSonics. "The Glove" was a defensive wizard, but also averaged 16.3 points per game in his career. Payton returned to his native Oakland to toss a ceremonial pitch and earn his Celebrity Jersey Card.

Born in Mississippi, Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice previously got a Celebrity Jersey Card with the San Francisco Giants. Rice played 16 seasons with the SF 49ers, followed by four with the Oakland Raiders and part of a season with the Seattle Seahawks. To honor his time with the Raiders, Rice tossed a ceremonial pitch for the Oakland A's to earn his Celebrity Jersey Card. He wore his familiar #80, which hasn't been worn by any other member of the A's.

Payton is one of my favorite basketball players from the 90's. Very cool to see him don the jersey of my favorite baseball team.
