Today, I celebrate the birthday of my longtime friend and business partner Louie. I am sure Louie and his family are celebrating today, but there was an even bigger celebration last week.
Louie was inducted into the Niles West High School Athletic Hall of Fame. After a hiatus due to the pandemic, Niles West restarted HOF inductions this year. Louie joined seven others in this year's class. WNBA star Jewell Loyd and former pro soccer player Dave Shelton were two of the others.
A great all-around athlete, Louie's NW career got off to a rocky start when he broke his leg in his first season at quarterback on the football team. That caused him to miss the basketball season. Healed by his second season, Louie claimed the starting guard job and went on to become the team and township's all-time scoring leader. He currently is still in third place.
It was an honor to join Louie's family on his special night. A modest person, Louie shies away from the spotlight. On this night though, the spotlight was directly on him and he deserved all of the attentions and applause.
I couldn't ask for a better friend or business partner than Louie. He is a Hall of Famer in every sense and now he has a plaque to prove it.
