Catching Up with Natisha Hiedeman

I first met Natisha Hiedeman several years ago when she was a star basketball player at Marquette University. Fast forward to now and she is a veteran of five WNBA seasons with the Connecticut Sun. She is also an assistant coach with Penn State women's basketball.

Green Bay native Natisha was drafted by the Minnesota Lynx in the second round of the 2019 WNBA draft. She bounced around her first season, before settling in with the Sun midseason. Since then, she has been a valuable player as a starter mostly or off the bench. She averages 7.4 points, 1.9 rebounds an 2.4 assists per game. Last season, she started all 40 games.

hen I was covering the WNBA more steadily, I had the chance to do a one-on-one interview with Natisha. She was a good sport as I asked about her Marquette days and her music. Multitalented, Natisha has dabbled in music and also fashion. She was always super cool in other Zoom interview sessions, too.

Earlier this season, I saw Penn State was playing at Northwestern and I made plans, hoping to see her. After a quick pre-game greeting, she got to business and I settled in by seat almost directly behind her and the Penn State bench.

After the Nittany Lions beat Northwestern, I caught up with Natisha as she headed to the lockerroom. Although she was still busy, she still took a moment to chat.

A week after this day, Natisha was traded to the Minnesota Lynx. The Lynx open their season May 14 when they play in Seattle. I have June 30 circled on my calendar though. That's when the Lynx come to Chicago and I will be there hopefully to get a pic with Natisha in uniform.
