Mascot Spotlight: Providence's Friar Dom

Providence University's Friar Dom has been called the creepiest mascot. I think that's an unfair opinion. Even if it is accurate, is that a bad thing?
Friar Dom debuted in 2002, replacing the live Dalmation mascot. Dalmations are called "the watchdogs of the Lord." The Friar Dom mascot has been tweaked over the years, each one seemingly slightly ghastlier.
I repeat, what's wrong with that? With the possible exception of kittle kids, this Friar Dom mascot isn't going to make anyone cry, but an intimidating mascot isn't a bad thing. Must all mascots be lovable lumps of fur with goofy faces (not that there's anything wrong with that)? I applaud Providence for creating Friar Dom this way, even if it might be unintentional/ Serendipity can be a beautiful thing, even if it relates to a ghoulish mascot.
