It's always bittersweet seeing college players move on with their lives. After a solid four year career at Northwestern, grad student and softball pitcher Lauren Boyd is moving on.
A new crop of players will be on the field next season (actually in September for Fall Ball), but I always miss the players I have watched for several seasons. Lauren was a real pleasure to watch over the years.
She always thanked me (and all fans) for coming out and supporting the team. She always had a smile on her face, even after losses (although I know the losses hurt). That's just the kind of player and person she is. She sill go far in this world, although most likely I will not know where she is. That's just the way it is. I follow them closely for their time in purple, then they become a good memory, except for a few who stay in the area or sports field.
For her four year career at Northwestern, Lauren went 24-14, with a 2.80 ERA, four shutouts and three saves.
A special player, Lauren will be missed on and off the field. I thank her for four fun seasons following her career and I wish her the best of luck wherever life takes her.
