Lauren Boyd finished an excellent career on the mound for Northwestern University. She finished with a record of 31-15 and an ERA of 2.41 while holding opponents to a paltry .236 average.
Coming to Evanston from Union, Missouri, Boyd had a sensational high school career. She earned First Team All-State and Conference Player of the Year honors after hitting .485 with 23 RBI to go along with a 0.23 ERA and 157 strikeouts while walking just two batters in 92.0 innings on the mound. Despite being a dual threat, Boyd pretty much retired her bat at Northwestern. She had 42 total at-bats, 36 in her first year.
This fall, a new crop of first year players will make their debut for the Wildcats. Gone will be #15 and a few of her other departing teammates. Hopefully, Boyd will make a few return appearances, but she won't be forgotten either way.
Goodbye, good luck and thank you to Boyd. I wish her a lot of success wherever the road takes her.
