Mascots: Supernova of the Chicago Stars FC

The Chicago Stars FC (women's pro soccer team) played a game at Martin Stadium along the lakefront in Evanston. The team also announced that as their new home for the 2026 season. I wrote about the experience at a Stars-Filled Afternoon for Global Traveler.

As I walked through the entrance, almost like magic, Supernova appeared. Of course, I immediately got a picture with the fuzzy mascot. It was one of the easiest mascot pics I ever got.

Supernova debuted in 2024, as the team was rebranded from the Red Stars. Supernova is described as a Martian with "blue eyes like the Chicago flag and a heart as big as Chicago."

My luck continued as the Stars beat Orlando 5-2 for only their second win of the season. The new home seemed to ignite the team, who is struggling this season mired in 13th place out of the 14-team NWSL.

I have already made my application to cover the team in 2026. Playing so close to my home makes this so much more enjoyable than their old home in Bridgeview, more than an hour south of me.

For more info on the team, go to chicagostars.com. Also, check here for my recurring coverage.

Supernova and me in Evanston, IL-September 2025.
