Cards That Never Were is a recurring series in which I create virtual trading cards for players missed in various sets. It is a concept I have borrowed from far too many to list, but I appreciate all of their efforts. Other creations of mine and many others can be found in the Custom Baseball Cards Facebook group (which is not just baseball cards, despite the name).
Today, I got help from Lynn from the aforementioned FB group. Lynn is probably the busiest person in the group, creating hundreds (thousands?) of cards.
Herb Mul-Key played only one season of football at Alabama State College. Urged by friend and Washington Redskins linebacker Harold McClinton, Mul-Key made the team after a tryout. He played three seasons, 1972-74 with the team, making the Pro Bowl in 1973 as a kick returner. Used rarely at running back, Mul-Key had 42 attempts for 188 yards with one TD in his career. He also had four receptions for 66 yards.
For his effort, Mul-key did not receive any love from Topps. When I set out to fix that, I saw Lynn already created a 1973 and '74, which only left a '75 for me. It's not the greatest, because pictures were limited, but at least it completes Mul-Key's cards.
