Cards That Never Were is a recurring series in which I create virtual trading cards for players missed in various sets. It is a concept I borrowed from far too many to thank, but I appreciate all of their efforts.
After an excellent career at USC, Bob Klein was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the 1st round (21st overall) of the 1969 NFL Draft. Klein played eight seasons with the Rams, before finishing his career with three seasons with the San Diego Chargers. A solid tight end, he had 219 receptions in 145 games with 23 touchdowns.
For his efforts, Topps gave Klein cards in sets from 1974-80. Those cards include the 1974 and '76 cards which featured the same image, only reversed. That left 1970-72. Once again, Lynn from the Custom Baseball Cards Facebook group beat me to three of the cards. That left only a 1972 card for me to make. I mistakenly made a duplicate 1972, but left that here anyway. The 1971 card is my other correct creation.
