Cards That Never Were: Johnny Rodgers Topps 1977 & '78

Cards That Never Were is a recurring series in which I create virtual trading cards for players missed in various sets. It is a concept I borrowed from far too many to list, but I appreciate all of their efforts.

After starring at Nebraska, including winning the 1972 Heisman trophy, wide receiver Johnny Rodgers was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the first round of the 1973 NFL draft. He opted to play in the Canadian Football League instead. After four seasons with the Montreal Alouettes, Rodgers joined the Chargers. In his second season with the Chargers, he suffered a career-ending knee injury ending his career. All told, he played 17 games in the NFL, getting 17 receptions for 234 yards and no touchdowns.

For his efforts, Topps did not give Rodgers any cards. Once again, the master of card creations Lynn, of Custom Baseball Cards on Facebook, created these gems before I could get to them. The man has created thousands of cards. I wonder exactly how many, but it wouldn't surprise me if it is 10K+.
