Friend Encounters: Hannah Flippen and Jim Strong

Friend Encounters is a weekly series featuring friends who have met celebrities.

Hannah Flippen was a three-time All-American softball player at the University of Utah. Hannah went on to play in National Pro Fastpitch with the Scrap Yard Dawgs and the Chicago Bandits.
Last year, Hannah played in the inaugural season of Athletes Unlimited softball. Hannah finished 19th in overall scoring in the league.
Hannah is also a member of Team USA and is an alternate member of the 2021 Team USA Olympics team. The Olympics start July 21 and I'll be watching closely as so many of my friends are playing.
One friend not playing is Jim Strong. While Jim was an excellent player in his youth, he is just a fan now. We have attended many Chicago Bandits games together over the years. Maybe we'll even get together at a sports bar and watch an Olympic Softball game or two.
Unfortunately, it was announced yesterday the three alternate Team USA players (Hannah, Taylor Edwards and Keilani Ricketts) would not be in attendance at the games. I'm unsure of the reason, but I am guessing it is part of the COVID precautions. Whatever the reason, it is very disappointing for these three great athletes who worked so hard. Olympics or not, these three are gold medal winners in my mind!
