Louis Gossett Jr. at 2007 Motor City Comic Con

Louis Gossett Jr. has had a long and distinguished career, including winning an Academy Award (Best Supporting Actor) for his performance in An Officer and a Gentleman. He also has won an Emmy, a Daytime Emmy, 2 Golden Globes and several other awards.
When I met Gossett at the 2007 Motor City Comic Con, I brought up a little bit of trivia. Gossett was originally cast for the role of Gale Sayers in Brian's Song. Unfortunately, he tore his achilles tendon shortly before shooting began. The role went to Billy Dee Williams (the subject of yesterday's piece).
I impressed Gossett with that knowledge or did I scare him? There is always a fine line. Actually, this time, I think I impressed him. We talked for several minutes about that role. Of course, Williams did a fantastic job and Brian's Song was incredible, but we talked and wondered about what could have happened.
Gossett was funny and gracious. It was a real pleasure meeting him.

Gossett is one of those guys who commands and desrves our respect. He is perfectly friendly, but he has an aura about him.
