With football season upon us, I thought it was the right time to highlight some autographs of my favorite position in football...the backup quarterback (oh you had to see that coming). Someday, after the Backup Catcher Hall of Fame is well established, I'll start working on the Backup Quarterback Hall of Fame. Until then, at least through this football season, I will feature autographs from some of my favorite backup qb's of my youth.
Tom Ramsey played at UCLA and starred in the 1983 Rose Bowl. In 2007, he was inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame (which will pale in comparison to the BQBHOF). He played two seasons in the USFL, followed by four seasons in the NFL (three with the New England Patriots).
Ramsey never appeared on a regular football card (card sets were different then, as we know). I sent an index card to Ramsey, asking him to sign it. He did it one better, by signing the card and including 4x6 signed photo.
Everyone remembers Steve Grogan, Doug Flutie and Tony Eason (three of the qb's whom Ramsey backed up). My job is to keep alive the legacy of players like Ramsey!
