This is a weekly series about friends who have met celebrities.
Fran Gallagher is the Publisher and Dick Evans is Senior Vice-President of Global Traveler magazine. They are both GT originals and they are my friends.
I met Fran while he was a salesman and I was an assistant at CWO&O during my college years. Dick worked for one of the newspapers that CWO&O represented. I did not meet Dick back then, but I communicated with him and certainly knew him.
Flash forward 20 years or so and Fran started GT and brought Dick and me on board. It has been a heck of a 10 year ride with GT for all of us.
Last summer, at the Global Business Travelers Association conference in San Diego, Fran, Dick and several other members of the GT staff were on hand to promote GT to conventioners, as we always do at these events. Actually, Louie and I did not even see the rest of the GTers, because we were making sure all of the nearby hotels were kept stocked with GT during the convention.
Anyone who knows Fran at all knows he is a tireless worker, but he also always manages to have his share of fun. To be honest, he has more than his share of fun, but I digress. Such was the case when Dick and Fran hammed it up a bit with "representatives" of Delta Airlines. This made for one of the more unusual Friendly Encounters.
