Mascot Week: Wheelie of the Akron Racers

Mascot Week continues with a stop in Akron to meet Wheelie, the mascot of the Akron Racers of the NPF (National Pro Fastpitch).  No pun intended, Wheelie did a good job of speeding by me.
Cuzz Gekas and I went to Akron for a roadtrip with our Chicago Bandits.  Wheelie made his rounds during the game, but somehow kept bypassing our section.  It was comical, seemingly deliberate.  Surely our Bandits caps couldn't be that offensive.  I'm sure he was just roaming, but it was odd that he missed our section throughout the whole game.  He was very fan-friendly otherwise.
Eventually, Cuzz and I stalked Wheelie until I got my picture.  I am happy to report that Wheelie was very agreeable to the picture, despite my Bandits cap.
Wheelie usually wears #99, but here he was wearing a special 15th anniversary jersey to celebrate the Racers 15th year of existence.  The Racers have built quite a large and loyal fanbase.  Unfortunately, they have only won one NPF title (in 2005).
It was a great trip to Akron and we look forward to a return in 2017.  Owner Joey Arrietta runs a class organization.  Check out AkronRacers.org to learn more about the Racers, including ticket info and scheduling.  Tell them Johngy sent you.
