Yom Kapow and the Windy City Rollers

Yom Kapow is a legend in Windy City Rollers history. It's a great name and she is a tough skater and a fan-favorite. Yom was a longtime skater with the Double Crossers, one of the 4 main WCR teams.
The Windy City Rollers are a Chicago flat track derby team. As I have written many times, I went to my first WCR event several years ago as something different to do and I quickly fell in love with the sport. Make no mistake, this version of roller derby is real sport.
There are real rules, scoring, referees and all else that goes with competitive sports. The amazing lady athletes practice several nights a week for most for the year (probably all year in most cases).
The WCR (and their opponents when they play outside for their league) are so fan-friendly. They can often be seen taking pictures with fans between bouts and a long time after their bouts end.
The Windy City Rollers are in action again tomorrow at 5:30 pm against the Vindicated Vixens at the Lombard Roller Rink. Go to WindyCityRollers.com or the Windy City Rollers Facebook page for more information and updates.
Yom Kapow and me in Chicago, IL-February 2017.
