Yesterday, I wrote about meeting media colleague Megan Mawicke at the sendoff for the DePaul women's softball team. At that event, I also met WGN's Lauren Magiera.
Chicago native Lauren has a Journalism degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage. She also was on a full ride gymnastics scholarship.
After graduation, Lauren worked in various roles for several media outlets, including most recently as a co-host with Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer Larry McCarren for a weekly 30 minute pre-game show for the Packers. Lauren joined WGN in April of 2016, as the station's first female sports anchor and reporter.
We talked about how exciting it was to have both DePaul and Northwestern doing so well in softball. It's been great for the schools, the athletes, the sport and the city. I am sure as a former athlete, Lauren had a special appreciation for what these young ladies have done.
