This is a weekly series featuring my friends who have met celebrities.
I have featured my Indiana wrestling promoter friend Jayson Maples several times. As a wrestling promoter, it is natural that he would meet and befriend many wrestlers. Two of the biggest wrestling names right now are Cody and Brandi Rhodes.
The youngest son of the legendary Dusty Rhodes, Cody is one of the main people behind All Elite Wrestling, the biggest, newest promotion. Cody had some success in the WWE, but despite his talent, he was never a main eventer. As one of the folks in charge of AEW, it is easy to see how he could be part of the main event picture, but Cody has earned everything he has and he hasn't jumped to or hogged the AEW spotlight.
As the WWE's main competitor right now, AEW is gaining fans and exposure. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. You can't overtake the WWE overnight and maybe AEW never becomes #1, but a solid #2 is very impressive.
Cody met Brandi while both were in the WWE. Brandi was a model who entered the WWE and became an in-ring performer as well as a broadcaster. Of course, she is a big part of AEW, onscreen and behind the scenes.
Jayson has done pretty well for himself, too. He promotes fantastic shows mainly in his native Indiana, although he expanded to Chicago last year. He brings in legendary stars for the fan fest, along with having a packed lineup of great indy talent.
