Cards That Never Were: Jim Beswick Topps 1979

Cards That Never Were is a recurring series in which I create virtual trading cards for players missed in various sets. It is a concept I borrowed from far too many to list, but I appreciate all of their efforts. While I usually feature my creations, occasionally others beat me to it. Such is the case today, when both Jeff and Lynn from the Custom Baseball Cards Facebook group already created a card for Beswick. I am not sure which genius made this card, because both of their creations were almost identical. Therefore, I credit both of them/

Jim Beswick was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 5th round of the 1976 MLB June Amateur Draft. The outfielder made his MLB debut in 1978. He appeared in 17 games, had 21 plate appearances and got one hit while scoring two runs. That would be it for his MLB career though. He played in the minors through the 1983 season, before retiring.

Understandably, Topps never gave Beswick a card. Fortunately both Lynn and Jeff did.
