Cards That Never Were: Norm Bulaich Topps 1971, '79-80

Cards That Never Were is a recurring series in which I create virtual trading cards for players missed in various sets. It is a concept I borrowed from far too many to list, but I appreciate all of their efforts. Who better to feature today than Christmas birthday boy Norm Bulaich?!

After a stellar career at TCU, Bulaich was selected by the Baltimore Colts in the first round (18th overall) of the 1970 NFL draft. Bulaich played three seasons with the Colts, followd by two with the Philadelphia Eagles, before joining the Miami Dolphins for his last five seasons. Oddly, Bulaich replaced fellow birthday boy Larry Csonka who left for the World Football League. All told, in 10 seasons, in 120 games, he gained 3,362 rushing yards with 30 TDs and 1m766 yards receiving with 11 TDs.

For his efforts, Topps gave Bulaich cards in sets 1972-78. That left 1971, 79-80. As I started looking for pictures, once again Lynn from the Custom Baseball Cards Facebook group beat me to them all. Lynn is the master and probably the most active poster with hundreds (thousands?) of virtual creations. Despite the name of the group, it is not just baseball, as today's creations prove. Lynn is the best. I have even asked for a few special commissions and he always comes up with fantastic work.

Happy birthday to Bulaich. Merry Christmas to all.
