I could have titled this "Insert Wrestling Company Here Champ Shelly Benson," because it seems like Shelly is winning belts everywhere. I'll keep it as s, because she is holding the SSW Title in the picture.
"The Bombshell" got a bit of a late start in wrestling, but she is making up for lost time. Despite that late start, she is still young, in her 20s. Recently she debuted at 2econd Wrestling and although they don't have a women's title, she already has made an impact. She has won titles elsewhere, including SSW in Wisconsin, when I got this picture.
Trained by the legendary "Ice Pick" Vic Capri, Benson had an outstanding 2024. It might not have technically been her rookie year (I am not sure when she actually started), but it was her coming out year. Now she is a force on the Chicago area wrestling scene and even into Wisconsin.
In early 2024, veteran wrestling writer Mike Pankow of WindyCitySlam.com cited Benson as "one to watch" that year. This year, he named her one of the up and coming stars. I admit to getting on the Benson bandwagon a bit late, but I cannot deny her success or popularity.
One of the funny things about Benson, like a lot of great women wrestlers, outside of the ring she looks small and pleasant. Get her in the ring though and you see a talented, tough grappler.
Benson has a bright future in the ring. I look forward to seeing her continue to develop and improve...and win titles.
