Princess Etch at C2E2 2020

With C2E2 starts today and runs all weekend, I am recalling some of the interesting folks I met at previous C2E2 events. Princess Etch is one of the most unique artists.
Princess Etch (aka Jane Labowitch) creates her art using Etch-A-Sketch. When I first saw she would be at C2E2 several years ago, I immediately requested an interview. Since then, I have gotten a couple updates over the years. The last time we spoke was in 2020, when Johngy's Beat Contributor Joey Roth handled the interview duties masterfully. Watch our interview at On the Beat With Princess Etch.
She talked about starting her specialized art, the challenges, time and cost of using Etch A Sketch and much more, including giving a few helpful hints to others who might want to try it.
Because Jane moved away since then, I don't expect to see her at C2E2 2023. She's still active and producing her cool art though.
Plenty of other fantastically talented creative folks will be there, along with all sorts of celebrities. It promises to be another great event and I will be "On the Beat" as usual/
Check out her work at PrincessEtch.com. Also, check C2E2.com for info and updates and back here for my recurring coverage.

Princess Etch at C2E2 2019

C2E2 2022 runs August 5-7. It's not too early to make plans to be there. I know I'll be "On the Beat" as usual.
One of the most interesting creators I ever met there was Princess Etch. Special Contributor Joey Roth handled the interview duties for our most recent interview which can be found at On the Beat With Princess Etch at C2E2 2020.
If you haven't guesssed, Princess Etch (aka Jane Labowitch) is an artist who creates with Etch A Sketch. While I have seen others do Etch A Sketch art, I have never seen anyone do such amazing and so much Etch A Sketch art. She really is in a class by herself. One might say she etched her own niche.
One of my favorite creations of hers is the Spongebob Etch A Sketch below. It's incredible, as are all of her creations. I have watched her do some and I still have no idea how she gets Etch A Sketch to do what it does. She is like a magician with it.
Unfortunately for Chicagoans, Princess Etch moved and hasn't been back for C2E2. I hold hope she will return one day, but most important, I am happy she is doing well.
Go to PrincessEtch.com for more info on Jane and her work. Also, check C2E2.com for news and updates on C2E2 2022.

Friend Encounters: Princess Etch and Joey Roth at C2E2 2020

Friend Encounters is a weekly series featuring friends who have met celebrities.

Last year, I was happy to add Joey Roth to the Johngy's Beat crew. Joey conducted several interviews with creative folks at C2E2. That was right before all things stopped.
As a fixture on the Chicago wrestling scene, Joey was the perfect choice to do interviews. He's talented, charismatic and can improvise. That's all part of his work as a manager of champions, but also part of his other endeavors in theater and other parts of the entertainment industry.
While all of the folks in Artist Alley have interesting things to promote, I tried to pick specific creators for Joey. I selected creators from different fields. All of my choices were a bit offbeat in all the best ways.
Princess Etch was one of my choices.
Princess Etch (aka Jane Labowitch) is a full time Etch-A-Sketch artist. Like most folks, I have no skills in the Etch-A-Sketch area, but Jane is a wizard with it. I met her several times at other cons and I am always amazed at her creations, new and old.
Even Joey, who has seen everything during his many years in entertainment, was very impressed by Jane's skill. His wonder in the interview is totally legit. He was wowed by her creations.
My only question is why she is a Princess and not a Queen. Maybe it is an age thing? It's a question I will have to ask the next time I see her.
Go to PrincessEtch.com for more info on Jane. Also, check Joey's interview with her at On the Beat With Princess Etch

Friend Encounters: Neil Cicierega and Princess Etch

Friend Encounters is a weekly series featuring friends who have met celebrities.

Princess Etch (aka Jane Labowitch) is an artist who uses Etch A Sketches as her canvas. Her art is definitely unique, which is what drew me to her a few years back. We have interviewed the Princess a couple times, the latest with IPW Chicagoland champ Joey Roth handing the duties. Our latest interview with Jane can be found at On the Beat With Princess Etch.
Several years back, Princess Etch had an awesome celebrity encounter with Neil Cicierega. I'll let her tell all about it though.

The first Etch A Sketch I ever preserved was a gift for Neil Cicierega which I presented to him at Youmacon in 2009. Regretfully it would take many more Etch A Sketches to really get the hang of making my art permanent, and my work understandably didn't fully survive the flight home.
More than a decade later, Lemon Demon continues to be my favorite band and Neil continues to be my favorite YouTuber. I rarely have dark backgrounds in my Etch A Sketch art but I like how it makes the logo pop!
For those of you familiar with Lemon Demon, what's your favorite song? Mine is The Ocean, though Sweet Bod (demo version) is a solid bop too. Tbh tho they're all solid bops 🎶

Cicierega is an internet artist, comedian, actor, filmmaker, singer, musician, puppeteer, and animator. He created "Animutation," a form of flash animation. He has released albums of mashups, as well as more albums under the name Lemon Demon. Cicierega is as unique as Princess Etch.
Check out Princess Etch at PrincessEtch.com. Also, follow her at Princess Etch on Facebook for more frequent updates.

On the Beat With Princess Etch at C2E2 2020

My coverage of C2E2 2020 for Patch.com has featured interviews with artist Ali Cantarella, author James Finn Garner, parodist Paul Erickson, comics creator Art Baltazar and comic book writer and artist Franco Aureliani. Today, Johngy's Beat Special Contributor (and IPW Chicagoland champ) Joey Roth interviews Princess Etch.
In reality, Princess Etch is Jane Labowitch, a Chicago-based artist whose palette is Etch A Sketch. Her unique art style dates back to her toddler years. She is self-taught through years of “playing” (creating) with Etch A Sketch. Aside from her illustrations on Etch A Sketch, she has a BFA in illustration.
I first saw and interviewed Princess Etch two years ago at C2E2 2018. In covering Princess Etch, Johngy's Beat joined other media outlets including Reddit, CNN, the Huffington Post and the Cartoon Network.
Artist Alley has hundreds of creators. There is a lot of awesome art, but nothing like what Princess Etch does. Her booth is always one of the most popular. We all played with Etch A Sketch as kids, but very few of us ever made anything really cool and none of us mastered it like Princess Etch does.
This has made me question why she is Princess and not Queen. I will have to ask her that the next time I see her.
I hope you enjoyed the interview with Princess Etch and the rest of my coverage of C2E2. This concludes this portion of my coverage of C2E2 2020. Stay tuned throughout the year for more coverage of other C2E2 related news.
Go to PrincessEtch.com to learn more about Jane and see a lot of her fantastic creations. Check C2E2.com for updates and news. Also, follow Joey Roth on social media.
Thanks to Princess Etch for her time, consideration and friendship. Thanks to Joey for his fantastic mic work. Thanks to C2E2 for the hospitality.
