In 1983, the Chicago White Sox were on their way to winning the American League West. My favorite player was Mike 'Spanky' Squires. The South Side Hitmen had a lot of offense, but Squires was a great defensive player, winning the Gold Glove award in 1981. I took the opportunity to meet Squires on Photo Day at Comiskey Park. I got to talk to Squires and get a signed baseball, but I did not get to take a picture with him.

Squires wasn't a bad hitter. I always thought he deserved more playing time. They had enough sluggers on that team.
Boy look how small he looks. I am sure he wasn't much smaller than the average player back then. It just goes to show how 'big' players got in the 90's.
