Friendly Encounters:Bill and Micky Dolenz

This is a regular series featuring friends who have met celebs.

I have previously written about journalist Bill Apter.  A while back, I asked Bill if he would share some of his celebrity pictures and he graciously agreed.  Today, I am writing about Bill meeting one of his favorites, Micky Dolenz.
Bill is a classy guy.  I have never heard a bad word about him from anyone.  He is successful, funny, intelligent and friendly.  He is also humble and would downplay all of those except for being friendly.  That's just the kind of great person Bill is.  Even the Evil Zebra says nice things about Bill!
I could prattle on about how cool Bill is, but I will get right to Bill relating his story of meeting Micky Dolenz.
ME AND ... "Monkee" Micky Dolenz ... early 60's ... at a hotel -New York. I was the host of a radio show on New York City's WHBI 105.9 FM. Whenever a celebrity was in town I always looked to do an interview. The Monkees (Dolenz, Davy Jones, Mike Nesmith, and Peter Tork) were on tour and when they hit NYC I got on the press list and cleared to do an interview. This is the photo that resulted in that visit. When I was a kid I used to love Dolenz as the elephant riding kid in the TV show "Circus Boy." We discussed that as well and of course the Monkees' tour. I wanted to be the "fifth Monkee" in this photo but the group was already full -- darn -- I sang my best rendition of "Last Train To Clarksville" for him!
I really appreciate Bill allowing me to run this picture and his recap (both of which are copyrighted by Bill for use only with his permission).  You can check out Bill's work on 1Wrestling.com and for more great pictures and stories, check out Bill Apter's Facebook page.
