On the Beat with Fredi Gonzalez of the Atlanta Braves

Fredi Gonzalez was a light-hitting catcher in the New York Yankees organization.  He did not advance beyond AA ball as a player.  As a manager, however, he is in his 7nth season with a record above .500, which is pretty good considering the teams he has managed.  Even this year, he has brought the Braves to first place against the predictions of most.
Gonzalez was observing batting practice in St. Louis, when we approached him about a few questions for Global Traveler magazine.  He was another from that day who graciously gave us a little bit of time and I greatly appreciate it.  It is always cool to include a manager in our on-field trips.
It's something like this which will give me extra reason to root for him and the Braves in the playoffs (it's not like the Cubs are there anyway).  Gonzalez is a solid young manager.  It will be interesting to see how his managerial career develops.  Hopefully, we will catch him again in the future.
