I met Hurricane Shane Helms once before, but I did not get to talk to him much. At the recent Resistance Pro "...And Justice For All" event, I had the pleasure of seeing the Hurricane again and spending a little real time with him.
Hurricane was wrestling "The Ego" Robert Anthony later that night, but he came early and we all hung out in the locker room listening to his stories and asking questions. He could not have been any nicer or more entertaining. He told us some interesting stories from both WCW and WWE. Hurricane has had quite a career and he is still very popular.
In his career, Helms has held the WWE tag titles and the Cruiserweight title twice, along with also winning the European title and the Hardcore title. He also won the Cruiserweight and Hardcore titles in WCW. He has also won several other titles with other promotions. He has wrestled as "The Hurricane" on and off. It would seem to be a limited gimmick, but he made it his own and has kept it fresh. It is still a blast to see the Hurricane in action.
He beat Ego in the match and the young crowd went wild. Hurricane played up to the crowd during the match and gladly posed for pictures and signed autographs after the match.
Once again this speaks volumes on the type of people RPro brings for their shows. They have always had quality people, not just big names. Of course, it also speaks of the person Hurricane is.
Hurricane Helms and me in Lockport, IL-November 2014.
