Friend Encounters is a weekly series featuring friends who have met celebrities.
With football season upon us, there is no better time to feature my buddy Tony Feddeler with one of his favorite players on his favorite team. Tony is wearing Jim Zorn's #10, but really Tony should be wearing an offensive lineman's number. I bet Big T would have made a solid tackle. Zorn's Seahawks teams could have used some help on the offensive line.
Some day, I have to ask Tony why he loves the Seahawks. I sit a random liking or is there some real connection?
Zorn had a solid NFL career. He started as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys in 1975, but was the last cut. He signed with the Seahawks in 1976 and played there for nine seasons. He spent on season with the Green Bay Packers in 1985 and the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1986. In 1987, he played one game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the NFL players' strike. He went on to coach for a few teams.
I always liked Zorn. Zorn to Steve Largent was magic. Unfortunately, the Seahawks back then had little else. On a better team, Zorn might have been one of the best of his time.
As for Tony, he is one of the best in any time. He's a softball, wrestling and convention bud. After the long pandemic, we finally got to reconnect at the Squared Circle Expo in May. It was great seeing him and I look forward to more of our usual good times in the future. Also, I will definitely get to the bottom of his love for the Seahawks.
