On June 10, the newest chapter in the Chicago Blitz story begins. Technically, the story has already begin, but June 10 will be their first game.
This is the newest incarnation of what once was the Lingerie Football League, followed by the Legends Football League. The Blitz take over from the Bliss. It's a new league name and new team name, but one things hasn't changed. The women are still dedicated, passionate athletes.
One of those women is DeAnna Hightower, the veteran of the team. I don't know her age, but it doesn't matter. DeAnna is out there hustling and performing as good as ever. She's a major asset to the team. As a plyer, she is excellent, but she's also part mentor, part den mother, part coach and all leader. I'd go watch the Blitz just for DeAnna. I have a lot of respect for her on and off the field. You can learn a bit more about DeAnna in our interview at On the Beat With the Chicago Blitz.
The Blitz open their 2022 season in Kansas City as they battle the Force. It's actually the first X League game of the season. It's also the first ever X League game period (thanks to the pandemic wiping out the previous two seasons).
Unfortunately, due to the quirky nature of the league, the Blitz only play two games. I support the players, but I have some criticisms of the league itself. Hopefully, the new rebranding will be a fresh start. These ladies deserve the best, because they give their best.
I'll be providing more coverage o the Blitz throughout the season. For more info, go to the X League site.
