Meeting 3x Champ Scott Williams

After an excellent college career at North Carolina, Scott Williams went undrafted. Still, the Chicago Bulls signed him in 1990, just in time to help the team to three straight NBA titles.
Scott went on to have a solid 15 year career in the NBA. Scott also played with Philadelphia, Denver, Cleveland, Dallas and Phoenix. Chicago fans will always think of Scott from his time with the Bulls.
That was evident when I recently met him in Bridgeview. Fans lined up well before his scheduled time. Scott could not have been any nicer.
My friend Tony and I were able to meet him through the hospitality of promoter Mark Childers. After Childers introduced us to Scott, he stood up and thanked us, an unexpected, but very appreciated gesture. It was a very classy move by Scott. We, in turn, thanked him and expressed our appreciation for his part in the titles won by the Bulls.
Scott has done a lot after retirement. He works with the NBA alumni and he also wrote a book. Through the Fire is his story, but also his mother's. It is a tough read at times, because of what they endured, but it is ultimately a story of love and triumph.
Meeting Scott was an unexpected treat that day. Thanks again to Mark and Scott for their generosity and nicety.
