Celebrity Jersey Cards is a weekly series in which I create virtual trading cards for celebrities wearing jerseys. Today, I continue a season-long march alphabetically through all MLB teams.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, actor Joe Manganiello played Flash Thompson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man for one of his first roles. A lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, he directed and produced the 2007 short documentary DieHardz about Steelers fans who meet up at bars in Los Angeles, California. Also a Pittsburgh Penguins fan, he hosted the 2017 NHL Awards and the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft. Presumably Mangeniello donned one of his many Pirates jerseys to toss a ceremonial pitch for the Pirates. This jersey bore #412, Pittsburgh's area code.
Born in Delaware, George Thorogood has enjoyed a 50+ year musical career. A baseball fan, Thorogood played semi-pro baseball for many years. For her first baseball game, Thorogood took his daughter to see the Colorado Rockies play the Chicago Cubs, a game before which he sang the National Anthem. Thorogood donned a Pirates cap and a #10 jersey to appear on his Celebrity Jersey Card. I am calling it a tribute to former Pirates shortstop Tim Foli.
