Celebrity Jersey Cards is a weekly series in which I make virtual trading cards for celebrities wearing sports jerseys. Today we feature two basketball lifers.
Born in Pennsylvania, George Karl starred on the hard curt at North Carolina before enjoying a five year career playing with the San Antonio Spurs. He immediately got into coaching upon retiring as a player. He coached for nearly 40 years, winning NBA Coach of the Year once and CBA Coach of the Year twice. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2022. I guess this could have been put in my Cards That Never Were series, but I put it here instead.
Nicknamed the Schonz, Bill Schonely was also born in Pennsylvania, but he gained his fame as an announcer for the Portland Trailblazers for almost 30 years. He also did broadcasting for the Seattle Pilots and the Portland Beavers. Immensely popular, he is enshrined in the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame. Naturally, he wears a Blazers jersey for his Celebrity Jersey Card.
