The Hurricane Came to Waukesha

Shane Helms had been wrestling for about a decade, when he adopted the gimmick of 'The Hurricane."  While it sounds like a cartoonish gimmick reminiscent of the wrestling caricatures of the 80's, it was not nearly as one-dimensional as those caricatures.  Plus, Helms was an excellent worker.  He used the gimmick solidly for a few years and on and off since the mid 2000's.
At the Great Lakes Championship Wrestling's (GLCW) Blizzard Brawl, Helms was in full Hurricane costume, much to the delight of the fans, including Matt and me.  I had never met Helms and it was fun to see him in this gimmick.
Gimmick have been part f wrestling for ages.  Cartoonish gimmicks like the Hurricane don't usually last for this long.  This is a credit to Helms and his abilities, both in and out of the ring.  Excellent wrestling ability is needed, but personality helps, too.  Helms pulls it off well and the fans enjoy all of Helms.  I appl;aud Helms for succeeding in this tricky business with an unusual character.
