One week from tonight, I will be enjoying flat track roller derby action thanks to the Windy City Rollers. This night is for the Ivy King Cup. It's going to be a fun battle.
These ladies always compete hard. Yes, they compete. As I have previously written, this is competition. It is not the theatrical derby of yesteryear. These women are hard-working and athletic. The points matter. The wins matter. The rules matter. It's a whole differebnt experience, but it is so much more enjoyable than the other form.
At their Black and Blue Gala, I talked to Trouble Helix, #260 for the Hell's Belles. Of course, she was not wearing her uniform that night. I admit, I had a rough time identifying some of the women. They look pretty different without their helmets, uniforms and game-day faces.
Trouble Helix has been very helpful in her role as one of the press liaisons. Because of TH and the rest o the WCR organization, it has been a real pleasure covering the sport and the women.
I encourage friends, family and readers to check out the WCR. An entertaining night is a guarantee. You can go to WindyCityRollers.com to learn more about the league. Remember, next Saturday is the Ivy King Cup. Don't miss it!
