Friendly Encounters is a weekly series featuring friends who have met celebrities.
I met Ashley Prester through my friend Jason Fleigel, who has been friends with him for years. I have joined the two at a few conventions over the years. I hope to be at the New York Comic Con next year with Ashley. A couple years back, I helped JayHawk and Ash get a pic with the now-deceased Carrie Fisher.
Earlier this year, Ashley came to Chicago for a Star Wars convention. Since beyond the first three movies, I'm not a huge fan of the Star Wars franchise, I didn't go to that con. Looking at their social media pages, JayHawk and Ash had a great time.
While they aren't mainly focused on meeting celebrities like I am, Ash did meet writer Timothy Zahn. He is best known for the Thrawn series of Star Wars novels. In reference to meeting Zahn, Ash posted, "Mr. Zahn is a delightful person to talk to and an incredibly talented author."
As happy as Ash looks with Zahn, he looked even happier with the stuff he bought at the convention. JayHawk and Ash could probably combine to create quite a Star Wars museum.
Hopefully later this year, Ash and I will team up at NYCC. I know he is definitely going. Either way, we will have some coverage here on Johngy's Beat.
