On the Beat With the Atlanta Dream 07/07/2021

The Atlanta Dream held an off day press session featuring Head Coach Mike Petersen. Despite not playing since their 118-95 loss to Las Vegas on Sunday, it has been a hectic and trying week for Coach Petersen and the Dream.

Atlanta guard Chennedy Carter played only five minutes Sunday. On Monday, the Dream announced Carter was suspended indefinitely for behavior detrimental to the team.

Coach Petersen started the press session with addressing that situation. The team and Carter are talking to work out the situation. There is nothing else to report at this time. It is simply business as usual as the team moves on without her for the time being.

Along those same lines, Coach Petersen talked about the spirit of the team. While it is disappointing and the team misses her, everyone is upbeat and professional. There is a job to do and it is up to the individuals to continue doing their jobs.

Discussing the health situation of the team, Coach Petersen chuckled a bit, rhetorically asking when the team has been fully healthy this season. He's not using injuries as an excuse though. All teams have injuries.

Coach Petersen finished by discussing the upcoming break for the Olympics. The team will take off a couple weeks and return to practice around July 27 or so. Then they will have a couple weeks of a mini-preseason to get back fully into game shape and mode.

Atlanta returns to action Friday night against Connecticut. The Dream has lost five of their last six and Connecticut, at 12-4, will not be an easy game. The Dream finishes this part of the season hosting Indiana on Sunday. That should send the team into the break on a winning note.
