Friendly Encounters is a weekly series featuring friends who have met celebrities.
One of the highlights of covering the Chicago Bandits last season was meeting softball legend Jennie Finch. Finch was conducting a series of clinics at the Dome in Rosemont. Finch has been on my radar for a long time and on my Top Ten list of celebrities I wanted to meet.
I think Eric Katz would echo my sentiments. Eric was an intern with the Bandits. He did a great job with Mike Knezevich in the broadcast booth. He handled some player interviews outside of the actual broadcast, too.
Eric was part of the Press contingent who had the pleasure of meeting Finch after one of her clinics. He was just as excited as I was. For Eric, it might have been even cooler, considering he was doing this at such a young age.
For her part, Finch was awesome. She handled the interviews well and graciously posed for pictures with all of us.
My interview with Finch can be found at On the Beat with Jennie Finch. I have to admit, I was a bit star-struck as I talked to Finch. She's that big of a legend, especially in the Chicago softball world.
Hopefully, next season, I will be able to talk to Finch again. I also hope that Eric returns and that I can work a bit with him.
