Today, we take a slight detour in our coverage of the reigning back-to-back NPF champion Chicago Bandits to feature outfielder Shellie Robinson of the Akron Racers. Shellie is one of the first "rival" players I ever met.
At South Carolina-Upstate, during her senior season, Shellie Robinson broke school records for home runs (18), runs (55) and RBI (48). She was drafted 23rd overall by the Racers in 2015 NPF College Draft and she went on to have a fine rookie season.
In her rookie season, Shellie batted .265 (fifth best on the team). In 27 games, she collected 18 hits, including 8 extra base hits and four home runs. She also played errorless on defense.
Shellie is once again contributing to the Racers. In 14 games, she is hitting .321 with 3 home runs, 9 rbi's and 6 runs scored.
Last season, I made the trek to Akron for a series between the Racers and the Bandits. It was a great time at the ballpark there. Over the offseason, I watched the progress via Facebook, as they made improvements in the field. I am hoping to make another roadtrip this summer.
