Catching Up With the Marquette Golden Eagles

The Marquette Golden Eagles finished 2018 very strongly and are on a roll going into 2019. At 11-3 overall, they only train Butler who is 12-1. Both teams are 2-0 in conference play.
Prior to the season, on Media Day, I was fortunate to talk to all of the players. Today, I am checking in with Amani Wilborn, Selena Lott and Erika Davenport.
A senior guard from Milwaukee, Wilborn earned Milwaukee City All-City Division Co-Player of the Year honors in high school. As a sophomore at Marquette, she was named the Most Outstanding Player for Big East Tournament and last year, she made the Big East All Tournament team.
Selena Lott is a sophomore guard from East Greenbush, NY. She averaged over 20 points per game in high school. In her first year at Marquette, as a reserve, Lott played in all but one game, getting 45 steals and blocking a team-high 19 shots.
Senior forward Davenport, hails from Clarkston, MI, where she was the #4 ranked player in the state in high school. In her sophomore and junior seasons at Marquette, she was named to the All Big East second team.
Wilborn and Davenport are two of the seniors who Coach Carolyn Kieger expects to lead the team, while Lott is expected to continue stepping up .Coach Kieger made it clear that there are high expectations for the team and players. The season is still young, but those expectations are being met.
Tonight the Golden Eagles host DePaul in a rematch of last season's Big East Conference title game. Marquette lost that game. DePaul, at 10-4, is also off to a good start. This game promises to be a battle. While it is only one game in the season, both teams really want this win. DePaul wants to prove they are still the leader, while Marquette wants to show they are back stronger. At 7 pm Friday, I will tune in to Fox Sports 1 and sit back to enjoy this game.
You can check GoMarquette.com for more info on the team, including scheduling and stats. You can slo go to BigEast.com for news on the conference. Also, check back here for recurring coverage.
