Ernie Sanchez x 2 at Days of the Dead Chicago 2014

A few years ago, I was pleasantly surprised at seeing my cousins Ernie and Ernie Sanchez at Days of the Dead. They were there to see their relative, author Justin Alcala.
It was great seeing these guys. I'm closer in age to father Ernie, but as a kid, my sisters and I spent more time with son Ernie. We spent a good amount of time together at our grandmother's, in a time when sitting on the porch, listening to WLS or playing catch was the way to spend a long summer day. Those were fun times.
As life goes, we all got busy and drifted apart. There was no love lost, just lives to live, jobs to work and the usual busyness. It's unfortunate and sad at times, but it happens.
Then, without prior notice, I got a call that morning saying they would be at Days of the Dead. Of course, I would hang around to see them and I would love to interview Justin. I am always on the look out for new authors.
My interview with Justin can be found at On the Beat With Justin Alcala. You can also get more info on Justin at JustinAlcala.com.
I have written many times about Days of the Dead being a big friend reunion. This time, it was actually a family reunion for me! You just never know what or who you will see at DotD, but it is always a good time.
Check out DaysoftheDead.com for info and updates on their events throughout the year around the country. The next Days is January 25-27 in Atlanta, GA.
