Mascot Week: Beeker

This is Mascot Week.  All week. I shall be featuring some of my favorite mascots.

Beeker first appeared on television's The Muppet Show during the second season.  Dr. Bunsen Honeydew had worked solo during the first season, but Beeker was added for the second as his "victim" when his experiments inevitably went wrong.  Beeker added a new layer of comedy to the sketches and the show.
At C2E2, some creative fan attended dressed as Beeker.  I applaud this fan and told him/her how much I appreciated the costume.
At these cons, you see a lot of cosplaying (whether officially or just for fun).  You see way too many Harley Quinn and Joker people.  Many other characters are fairly popular, too.  You hardly ever see a muppet-themed character.
I think there should be more of this.  Why be one of 25 Harley Quinn's, when you can be the only Beeker.  (Don't even get me started on the lack of respect for Aquaman.)  Beeker stood out.  Dozens of people got pictures with Beeker.  Meanwhile, all of the Harley Quinn and Joker people went virtually unnoticed.  Fans are desensitized to these characters due to overpopulation.
If you are attending the con and just want to have fun, dress however you want.  On the other hand, if you want to be noticed, if you want to be special, pick an original, but memorable character like Beeker.
