Happy Birthday Louie

Today is the birthday of my bud and business partner Louie Atsaves. We celebrated at Global Traveler's party in December, but today I feature the birthday boy here.
I first met Louie in September of 1987, when I joined Lerner Newspapers. I actually was sitting at his desk (although I didn't know that and was told to sit there). We've come a long way since then.
We worked together for 17 years at Lerner. We were dismissed on the same day as part of the Evil Empire (the Sun Times) taking over Lerner. We have run two Marathons, attended a Chicago Bears' training camp, played hundreds of poker games and made a few trips to Las Vegas, among other joint activities. I also brought Louie into GT with me. I have seen Louie get married, raise three boys and have a beautiful family.
Through it all, he is still the same guy. He is the best friend I could ever hope to have. He has had my back from the first day. He's a standup guy with a deceptively wicked sense of humor.
I greatly appreciate Louie and his family. I have had so many memories with various combinations of his family over the years. It's always great fun and they always make me feel like part of the family.
As Louie celebrates 53 with his family, I toast Louie here. Happy birthday, buddy!
