Sonya Morris and the DePaul Blue Demons

The DePaul Blue Demons women's basketball team finished the season with a record of 25-5, ranked 16th in the nation. In the Big East Conference, the Demons were 15-3, good for first place. This weekend, the Demons take the Wintrust Arena court to go after another Big East title, after winning previous two Big East Conference tournaments
Last year, I had the pleasure of celebrating on the court with the team, including then-freshman guard Sonya Morris. The St. Louis, MO native was the 2018-19 Big East Freshman of the Year and also made the Big East All; Academic team. She played in all 34 games, averaging 14.5 minutes per game.
This season, she has started all 30 games, averaging 28.6 minutes per game. She averaged 16.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, both good for #2 on the team..She added 85 assists and 66 steals. Sonya is a key to the success of the Blue Demons in the Big East Tournament and the NCAA tourney, too.
I'll be "On the Beat" all weekend at the tourney. Hopefully, local fans fill the arena for the Demons (or the other teams). These elite athletes deserve our support.
