Friend Encounters is a weekly series featuring friends who have met celebrities. With college basketball season upon us, I feature one of my youngest, but most talented friends.
Mikaela Dokes is an amazing young basketball player. With her father Walter encouraging her all the way, Mikaela is quickly becoming a bit of a sensation. Make no mistake though, proud papa isn't pushing young Mikaela. The dream is all hers.
Last year, I had the pleasure of interviewing the pair. I was impressed my Mikaela's deication and her abilities. The father-daughter bond was heart-warming.
Late last year, papa Walter treated Mikaela to a Notre Dame women's basketball game. She met several of the players (see previous Friend Encounters), including Olivia Miles.
Guard Miles has played in 39 games, averaging 13.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game. Highly recruited out of New Jersey, Miles seems to have a bright future with the Fighting Irish.
Mikaela also seems to have a bright future, although where she ends up playing is to be determined. If you watch the interview though, you will hear where the plan is.
