Celebrity Jersey Cards is a weekly series in which I create virtual trading cards for celebrities wearing sports jerseys. Today, I conclude my season-long alphabetical journey through all Major League Baseball teams with two female athletes.
Erika Piancastelli was born in Modena, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, but came to America and starred at McNeese State. Along the way, she also has played with Team Italy. For the last three seasons, she has been one of the stars of Athletes Unlimited Softball. Usually a catcher, Piancastelli often played outfield at AU. I saw her make one of the best throws I have ever seen, when she nailed a runner at third with a perfect strike from right field. As amazing as she is on the field, she is just as great off it. A few times I brought friends to AU games and messaged her asking her to stop by the autograph area to meet them and she always did. Piancastelli earned her Celebrity Jersey Card at Yankee Stadium.Born in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, Joe Namath starred at Alabama before being selected by the New York Jets with the first pick in the 1965 AFL Draft. He was also selected by the St. Louis Cardinals with the twelfth pick in the 1965 NFL Draft. Namath chose the Jets. He almost single-handedly put the AFL on the map by guaranteeing and delivering a victory in Super Bowl III against the Baltimore Colts. After 12 seasons with the Jets, Namath finished his career with one with the Los Angeles Rams. Injuries plagued Namath throughout his career, limiting his overall success. Still, he was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1985. His stats do not reveal the totality of what Namath accomplished. Namath showed great form on the mound for the New York Yankees to earn his Celebrity Jersey Card.
