I have twice dined one table away from former Major League Baseball player Brian Anderson. Not wanting to bother him while eating, I failed to actually met him both times.
The third time I saw him, I would not be denied. Of course, it was a lot easier at a sports card show. Specifically it was at the Midwest Sports Buffet, a great show in Bridgeview, just southwest of Chicago.
Anderson was one of three former athletes there. Bill Cartwright and Eddie Olczyk were the others. Each drew a big line of fans and I met all of them.
Currently an assistant coach at Northwestern, Anderson played five seasons in the MLB, mostly with the Chicago White Sox, except for part if his last season when he played for Boston. He was a rookie on the 2005 World Series Champion White Sox.
When I approached him, he commented on my Baseball-Reference shirt and then offered me his Word Series ring. Of course, I would take the opportunity to wear it.
I was zero for two, but finally got the hit with Anderson. Thank you Midwest Sports Buffet.
